The bottom line is I suck at writing about myself. So I have decided to start a new blog at www.youthministryexperience.com and focus on providing tid bits for youth ministers. It includes book reviews, album reviews, articles and general thoughts about youth ministry. Come check it out.
I will still keep this blog active, I just won't be posting much anymore. Thanks for reading (if you still are) and check out the new site.
Peace.

Top 10- BCS Standings
With the first 8 weeks in the book, the rankings get so much more important in college football. The BCS standings were released earlier this week. Here is my top 10 for college football:
1) Texas
2) Penn State
3) USC
4) Oklahoma
5) Alabama
6) Florida
7) Georgia
8) Oklahoma State
9) Ohio State
10) Missouri
As you can tell, won-loss record is not very important depending on who you play. I also think that the Big 12 is being overhyped as the toughest conference (not saying they're not) because they are just starting to play each other. Here are three predictions for you: 1) Texas and Alabama will both end the season with 2 losses 2) Penn State will play in the National Championship Game and 3) The winner of the Georgia/Florida matchup will win the SEC and play in the National Championship.

Reunion with Katrina (and Gustav) Victims
Last night, I had the wonderful opportunity to have dinner with an older couple from New Orleans who we helped after Hurricane Katrina. They lived near one of the levees and in 2005, their house was flooded and the entire interior had to be stripped down to the studs. Our job in April 2006 was to sheetrock the house and we had the best time doing it because these were the most awesome people. He is in his late 70's and she is in her mid-70's. They are so kind and you can't help but love them. After spending the entire week with them in April, it was sad to leave. In fact, on our last night, we had to take him to the hospital because he fell and broke his hip. This made leaving even harder.
Last weekend, they were some of the ones forced to evacuate when Hurricane Gustav approached the Gulf Coast. So they came to Norcross and stayed with a lady who was on our trip. A bunch of us got together with them last night and celebrated his birthday (79) before they made the journey back to New Orleans this morning. Even though it had been a little over 2 years since I had seen them, it was just the same as it was the night we left. We shared stories and memories. They asked about all of those who weren't there last night. But more importantly, they shared with us how God had been at work in every area of their lives for the last 3 years. It was amazing. Here is an older couple who lost everything they owned in Katrina, and they are still blessing God every day. It is a remarkable faith!
Please pray for them: Bill and Marlon Pinson. They will return home this afternoon and, for the second time in 3 years, pick up the pieces and move on with their life. Thankfully, this is a couple who has God in their heart and they are locked in on the plans He has for them.

Going Back to School
That's right...I'm heading back to school (cue Adam Sandler song)! I found out this weekend that I have been accepted into Asbury Theological Seminary and will begin taking classes in February 2009.
I'm very excited about this opportunity and I know that it will be an amazing experience. I also recognize that I still have some hurdles to overcome (time management, costs, etc.). But I believe that God will provide the answers to these hurdles if this is what I am supposed to do.
So after 7 years of saying "maybe...one day," I will now spend the next 5-6 studying and learning and attaining my Masters of Divinity.

Accountability

church leadership
This weekend, I went down to Atlantic Station with a friend of mine and we got on the discussion of the church and accountability. (Side note: This was my first trip to Atlantic Station. I didn' t know what all the hype was about before I went, but it was awesome! I will definately be going back.) We had a great discussion on church worship and church leadership.
The church needs to have leaders who are providing vision and direction. Without vision and direction, your church spirals out of control in several different directions. The church also needs accountability. I found this great post at Stuff Christians Like that talks about accountability. He basically talks about the need for authentic accountability, not the kind where you nobody is watching out for you...but they say they are.
Enjoy!
